Core statement:

We comprehensively characterized metabolic consequences of body weight changes in the population-based KORA S4/F4 cohort using multiple omics data from two metabolomics and one transcriptomics platform. We observed a global effect of weight change on the serum metabolome, and an effect on selected gene transcripts. Our findings improve the understanding of molecular mechanisms underlying the association of weight gain with changes in lipid and amino acid metabolism, insulin sensitivity, mitochondrial function as well as blood cell development and function.
