The protein expression of the pluripotency factor Nanog fluctuates strongly in mouse embryonic stem cells and seems only weakly regulated.

We systematically analysed the kinetics of protein expression in mouse embryonic stem cells an discovered that variations in the Nanog expression are not necessarily linked to differences in the expression of other pluripotency factors.

Scientists at the Helmholtz Zentrum Munich working in collaboration with colleagues at ETH Zurich have discovered that variations in the Nanog expression of embryonic stem cells are not necessarily linked to differences in the expression of other pluripotency factors. The results of the study, which has now been published in the scientific journal Nature Cell Biology, refute previously held assumptions.
