The observation that elF6 depletion leads to a specific transcriptional signature in insulin-responsive tissues, induces Fasn reduction and histone acetylation and the fact that obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cancer require a Fasn-driven lipogenic state, turned elF6 driven translation to a potential therapeutic target for these diseases in the future.
